Interlude – Quiz (Music)

After some back and forth in the comments to my last post, I thought it would be interesting to unearth a quiz I created around 15 years ago.

These are all lines from songs in the period 1970-2000.  Some are Australian, but the vast majority are from hit songs known worldwide at the time of their release.

Enjoy, and we’ll be back to Lone Wolf before you know it!

Aside – And of course you can Google these, but just don’t.  Very uncool.

  1. Goodness me! Not much I recognize here.

    10) I’m reminded of “Storybook Love” from The Princess Bride but I don’t think the line is exactly that.

    12) “Nothing Else Matters”

    32) “Bohemian Rhapsody”, Queen

    42) “Invisible Touch” but I cannot remember by whom.

    47) “Cat’s in the Cradle”, Ugly Kid Joe
    48) “Don’t Speak”, No Doubt (Wow, two in a row!)

    69) I’m thinking Monty Python’s “Sit on my Face” but it is not quite right, I think.

    79) Four Non-Blondes, think it’s called “What’s Going On?”

    112) “If I Could Turn Back Time”, Cher
    113) “Stay”, I remember the text because I used it as background in a RPG-session once but I cannot recall the artist right now.

    117) “One Night in Bangkok”, its from Chess so no specific singer.

    145) “The Rose”, Bette Middler

    155) “What’s Love Got to do with It?”, Tina Turner

    168) “Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing”, Aerosmith
    169) “Here I Go Again”, Whitesnake

There, just under 9% recognized (and I’m probably off on two).

  4. oh gods. The temptation to cheat is unreal. Honestly, I not used to NOT spending at least half an hour researching various obscure points in your posts or pop cultures. Ok. I won’t have a CLUE about most of these so rather than a long list of Nope, Nope Nopety Nope I’ll just do the one’s I know

    9) Lovecats by The Cure. That’s the song that made me listen to The Cure.

    11) Britney definitely, the song that went Hit me baby One more time I think.

    32) Bohemian Rhapsody sung by Freddie Mercury (not sure was he in a band then).

    119) Ok, this is in the song where some girl sings “Ooh Baby do you now what that’s worth, Ooh Heaven is a place on Earth” … but I have no idea who it was or what she sang. Do I get even one point for knowing other words in the song?

Ok. Recognized four songs out of 170, got three of the singers and two of the songs. That’s actually better that I thought I’d do :/ Will definitely listen to the “Ooh Baby do you know what that’s worth song again though, it was good to be reminded of it. Thanks.

Mangy Wolf pads off to cheat shamelessly.

      1. While i can’t remember when I’m sure I’ve referred to my appaling memory before, especially where names are concerned. The fact that I’ve only listened (several times) to TWO Britney songs but I still picked the wrong title is just so totally me.

I did recently manage to use this for my own use. I had to give an under six minute talk on did Jesus die on a stake or a cross (won’t give it here) and so I had to briefly discuss the two Greek words Xylon and Stauros before getting to the main part. So for crossing over I said in full honesty “But to be honest names, Xylon, Kylo Ren, Stauros, they tend to blur for me…” Seeing who in the audiance suddenly reacted (one clapped his hand to his mouth, one girl grinned from ear to ear, a second girl whispered quickly to the first girl and then started shaking) it was fun.The talk proper went well too.
